Volunteer at Seva Café

Volunteering at Seva Café is a way to give the gift of yourself to the community. Here, we humbly aspire to treat each “Guest as God,” and through this exercise, deepen in our personal understanding and practice of seva.

In order to best be of service, we request that volunteers sign up at least once a week for a minimum of 4 weeks in order to develop the skills needed to help at the Café. All first time volunteers are asked to wash dishes.

Each night is divided into three shifts. Following is a list of the shifts with a description of the different positions and responsibilities. If you would like to join us in this experiment in service, please email us, phone us, or sign up at the reception desk.

• Shift 1 (5:30pm - 7pm)
  • Preparation Crew - sweep/mop floors, clean sink/toilet areas, arrange tables, water plants, clean glass, arrange library, chop vegetables (if needed), clean fridge/cupboards (once a week), wipe silverware, etc. (work will be divided amongst volunteers)

• Shift 2 (6:15pm - 10:00pm)
  • Waiters - serve food to guests, serve water, explain concept
  • Dish Washers - wash and dry dishes, stack for kitchen staff

• Shift 3 (10:00pm - 11:30pm)
  • Clean-up Crew - wash dishes, clean tables, put away tables/chairs, clean kitchen appliances, collect garbage

• Guest Cooks - we invite one guest cook each night to prepare one dish. If interested, please email us, phone us, or talk to the receptionist.
